A Winter Treasure Hunt Awaits
Looking for a fun family outdoor activity during winter break? We want to let you in on a little secret. There is a world of hidden treasures just waiting to be discovered by you right here in AVIS reservations.
Let me introduce you to geocaching. It is a great activity for all ages and allows you to be part of the world’s largest treasure hunt. And it’s so easy to participate.
What is geocaching? Geocaching is an entertaining, outdoor activity where you use a mobile device to locate hidden containers, known as geocaches! Geocaches are hidden in millions of different locations all over the world, all having different difficulty levels and sizes. Each geocache contains a logbook inside, allowing its finders to sign their name to show they completed the challenge!
Here’s how to get started!
How to play:
1: Visit Geocaching.com to create a free account or download the Geocaching app on your mobile device
2: Search for geocaches near you
3: Find a realistic location for your geocaching experience
4: Select your specific geocache on your mobile device and set out on your adventure using coordinates and hints provided to you
5: Once you locate your geocache, open it and sign the logbook- include your name and date
6: Log your first find!
Here are a few tips to make the most of your experience:
- Be mindful of your surroundings and the environment
- Bring a small item to trade into the geocache
- Let geocaching inspire you to hike new trails
- Photograph your journey
- Challenge family and friends to a friendly competition
Going geocaching will allow you to experience our AVIS reservations in new ways. You will find yourself noticing new things along the way as you are looking up and down to locate your geocache. Once you get familiar with geocaching, try to look for future locations where you could hide your own geocache!
Finding my very first geocache!
This post is a really fun introduction to geocaching. It had been years since I last searched for a geocache, but you’ve made it easy to get back into it–and it’s so easy now with cellphones helping with location data. Thanks, Ella!
This is a fun adventure to add into a good walk.
Thanks, Ella–We tried this years ago but forgot the details. Tried again recently and had lots of fun!
